Who Is Whole, Really? [12 Nov 2007|06:33pm]

[ mood | worried for a friend ]

New poem (finally!):

"All This Time"

That you've been looking out for us:
You need someone to look out for you.

Yet you don't waver-
You never waver.

I want to carve your father's name for you
Into something unforgettable,
To plant your love for him in
The soil of faith to go on growing
Long after he is gone.
Your strength- both fragile and unbreakable-
Is your mother's gift to you.
I am Afterthought on the map of you,
(Am I an afterthought?)
But with you still.

Whether it means much
Or whether it means little:
I love you.

We are never alone.

A Work In Progress [25 Jun 2006|11:38pm]

[ mood | artistic ]

I wanted to share with the community, so here is what I call The Salome Series. Some of these are drawn from actual photos, some are not. I imagine it's not hard to tell those that are from those that aren't. :) It's interesting to see the progress in my drawing skills, since I date every picture. Also, you can tell very roughly when I started using a nom-de-plume. :) Including my first ever charcoal pic, the rest are in pencil. If you are a belly dancer and would like to be drawn into this series, post a clear pic of you in costume. ;)

Discovery and Creativity [15 Mar 2006|11:44pm]

[ mood | thoughtful ]

This semester I began taking a painting class. I was a little worried about it at first, because I still thought of Art as just a hobby; something I was mildly interested in and only somewhat talented in. I was afraid that I would end up, as I had for part of the drawing class I had taken a year earlier, comparing myself to other students, and thus feeling a lack of confidence. However, the worries that went through my mind did not prevent me from feeling excited. For regardless of my abilities in the field, Art has always been something that I really enjoy.

On the first day of class our teacher set up tables of fruit and instructed us to paint them. The only preparation he gave was a very quick demonstration, during which he did little talking. He gave no advice and did not tell us of any techniques that day; he simply painted the fruit himself, gave us supplies, and told us to start painting. At the time, his method of instruction (or rather, lack thereof) confused me. But looking back on it, that was the best thing he could have done for us.

Educational Theatre [15 Mar 2006|11:33pm]

[ mood | bouncy ]

Does anybody here know anything about or have any experience with educational theatre? What can you tell me about it? For starters, what exactly is educational theatre? I'd like to find out whatever I can about the subject, but that question (what is it) is the one thing I'd definitely like to know if anyone can tell me. I'm a college student and I'm not sure what I want to study or what career I'd like to go into, but I know I like children, education, theatre, art, and music. My advisor told me that taking a career test would be a good idea and would help me out, and the test told me, among other things and other possible options, that I should consider going into educational theatre. I hadn't heard of it (or at least not being called that) before, and it sounds interested. I tried looking it up on a search engine, but I got a bunch of unrelated, unhelpful sites that were of no use to me, and it would take me a really long time to look through all those sites to find something. Also, are there any other fields out there that you guys know of that I should know about and might not have heard of that combine some of my different interests? Thanks guys.

Whew! That took forever! But I couldn't copy/paste it from the manuscript. Apparently the codes my word processor uses are not accepted by lj because last night was error page heaven, so I had to type it out. Enjoy! And comments welcome.

I am not an artist. I leave that to my uber-awesome Mom, anorwegianwould. This is just something I do to work through writer's block, and for fun, so it's more like doodling. Still, thought I would share.

A Bit Of Anger Management [16 Feb 2006|11:23pm]

[ mood | sore ]

"Taming The Shrew"

This, your circumvention of issues,
That you say solves everything
Meets the wrought iron of my anger,
Fired and sharp. I am seething.
I am breathing. The glowing eyes
Of the leopard in leafy forest
Are not as fierce as I can be,
While you sloth and humdrum and ignore
Until it is bigger than both of us.
Curse you! And curse my anger and
Its ineffectiveness! No one knows
Helplessness like little ol' me,
Against the deluge of indifference.
No one knows indomitableness
Like me, against the towers of apathy
And judgmentalism and and you.
I will break through you.
I will shine ever brighter than
Even I thought I could.
I am rising. I am growing.
I am stalking this life for an entry.
I will tame you.

Ah... Poetry... [13 Feb 2006|10:46pm]

[ mood | mellow ]

"Of A Refugee"

I do not know the name of this country,
Nor the country of my body.
I do not know my ancestors-
I will not know my children.
The broken bread of my desire
Has been eaten by everyone, and
I have not a crumb.
I have the humiliations of Zenobia,
The shattered bones of my palm,
The knowledge that
Life is Art, not perfection,
And I have done my part.

Also, see my community sisterofthewood and my journal sabneraznik for more work, in various fields of art: writing, drawing, icons, etc.

Hey there. I'm strange and new to this business...
I'm all moody and emotional and based in Melbourne, Australia.
I do theatre business and write and thrilling stuff like that. I too love the name of this group. I hope (I'm sure) y'all are a bunch of self-confessed wankers and wanna be my friend.
To get you up to speed, I've just embarked on a one-woman show (a double bill) that will include a Strindberg and a Beckett. More detail in me journal. I've also just finished writing my first grant application. Hurrah.
I'm reading Anais Nin, Polly Young-Eisendrath and various other bits and pieces.
I'm listening to Francoiz Breut, and Tricky, ABC Classic FM and the soundtrack to Amelie.
I'm up for a bit of interesting discussion and ideas sharing that's none too full of itself: I also sell clothes.

I watched a biography on Janice Joplin last night. Can anyone else relate to her style, or is it just me? Feathers in the hair? Hell yeah.

[22 Mar 2003|12:21am]

[ mood | ecstatic ]

It looks as if I've returned to the fold.

It's been a good amount of time since I plunked away at the keys of a computer for anything other than script writing for my comic book and assignments for school. So in order to create a break in the monotony, I've decided to start posting again on a semi-regular basis. It's quite therapeutic, thought-provoking, and it's more cost-effective in the long run than utilizing cigarettes as nerve stimulators.

Where to start? I've been off the map for quite some time now, my disciples. No one forced my hand or persuaded me to do so; I needed the time to get myself and my career goals on track. I've always tried to live my life as goal-oriented as possible while still taking the time out to enjoy the view so to speak. Problem was, I was enjoying the view far too often to actually make something of my life. So things change. People change. Dollars change, so why can't people?

I'm wiser now. I've learned from my mistakes over the past year. I still have flaws, for no man or woman is perfect, but I adapted everything I've learned into strengths and virtues.

That's that; I'm not trying to begin a sermon. A preacher I am not.

Other than getting myself right, I've been staying busy pursuing my Bachelor's degree in the Arts and getting the legal end of my fledgling comic book company intact and pensive.

I've been browsing through the various friends links I possess and have come across quite a deal of unhappiness and/or discontentment. Perk up, folks; life is never as bad as we make it. I had to learn that the hard way; I know that I'm stronger because of it.

Well, I've got to go drop by an associate's house.

Stay hungry, my disciples.

Should we lighten the mood by singing the theme song to, "Welcome Back, Kotter" and substituting my name in Kotter's place?

I though not.

New Idea for an artwork [09 Apr 2002|08:09pm]

[ mood | creative ]

I need an opinion (or two, or five). I'm currently making a college made out of burned paper.
Do you guys think it would look best on a white background?

Oh yeah, background info, I paint in acrylics, draw in colored pencil, play with colleges, and I *try* to write peotry. Plus I'm 17, and stuck in high school.
